„The unknown duty“ is the best discipline of all acrobatic competitions. Its programme is told only a short time before the competition to the participants, so that it can’t be practiced before. Every participant is chooseen by lot. „The unknown duty“ affords full concentration, strong nerves and aeronautical ability.
Watler Wolfrum, born in 1923, was among the youngest generation of German fighter pilots in WW2. He achieved 137 aerial victories on 424 missions. Such he is among the pilots with the highest victory quotes. Insistently, the author’s memories draw a picture from fighting and dying at the Eastern Front. Because Wolfrum significantly formed the German acrobatic scene as pilot, constructor and head of the team, this book is also a standard work to the history of modern acrobatic aviation in Germany.
It contains more than 100 contemporary photographs, most of them previously unpublished.
